APSN select the Edit TV Media Platform solution to ensures football fans enjoy top quality streaming action live and VOD for the English Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A.
APSN are one of Asia's leading internet sportscasters, streaming over 2500 events live every year. Official NHL and MLB rights holders for a number of countries throughout the APAC region including China, South Korea and Hong Kong, APSN have been acquiring internet and soccer rights from Europe's most prestigious leagues including the English Premier League, German Bundesliga and Italy's Serie A. Combining that with live rights for Brazil's Campeonato, Scotland's SPL, Copa Libertadores and Copa SudAmericana, APSN have created an action packed high quality content schedule.
With such a large rights portfolio, and the promise of more to come, APSN wanted a video management and streaming solution that could manage a large and complex fixture list and provide users with a unique, innovative way to watch the content. There were four key challenges:
Deploying and customising the Edit TV Media Platform allowed the Edit TV team to help scope the size and complexity of the video streaming operation, introduce DVR based functionality into the broadcast operation and allow APSN team members to control video content across multiple portals from a single back end administration interface.
Integrating Edit TV video player applications for internet TV, live content was then automatically tagged using Edit TV's XML integration technology with time coded metadata represented within the video players by graphical icons showing events and players. This created a live streaming experience which allowed users to 'time shift' the live stream by pausing and rewinding live broadcasts by event. Users could watch all of the goals from a match after they had happened, before clicking to rejoin the live stream. For concurrent matches, users can flick to another match, watch the goals and then jump back to their preferred stream.
This then enabled a full video on demand service that allowed users to search with media to watch their favourite events, or watch the full match again. VOD is an increasingly important feature for APSN because of the time difference in the Asian region for major European and South American leagues.
